Left-Hand Shake

Left-Hand Shake

founder of the Scouts, Lord Baden-Powell, claimed he learned the left hand shake from a defeated African Ashanti Tribe chief whom Colonel Baden-Powell attempted to greet in 1896 by holding out his right hand. But the Ashanti chief Offered their left hands and supposedly replied: "The men in my tribe greet the bravest of the brave with the left hand, Because to do so we must drop our shield and our protection."

There are different versions of this storythat the scouts shake with their left hand because it's the hand closer to the heart.
